ABOUT US

Students from California, Ohio, and Wisconsin participated in the C.O.W. project this year. Our students got to know each other early in the year by sharing introduction videos with each other using the website Thrively.com. The idea for this project comes from a desire to connect students and teachers across the country through cross-curricular projects. Two teachers from each state met early in the year and decided on a theme for our students to address. We wanted our students to come up with products, organizations, or services that would help to improve society. Our students were then asked to brainstorm about problems they saw in their world, country, community, and school.

After students found a problem that they were passionate about solving, they investigated the major causes of that problem, who is most often affected, and the history of the problem itself. Once students had enough information about the problem, we asked them to come up with a solution aimed at solving that problem. During this phase of the project, we invited professionals from our community to come and speak with our students about the validity and practicality of their solutions. The professionals were involved in fields that were relevant to the topics our students were studying and were able to provide excellent feedback that helped our students to develop well-rounded and robust solutions.

Logos

Students were asked to create Logos to advertise their product, organization, or service. Each student was asked to include the name of their project and a slogan they created to express the goals of their product, organization, or service. Using the website Canva.com, students were able to create the amazing examples below!

In order to display the work the students had complete throughout the year, we asked them to create a Shark Tank style business pitch explaining their problem and solution. The students were also asked to include images pertaining their topics and a logo that they created to advertise their product, organization, or service. The videos helped to show the knowledge that they had gained through their extensive research and can be found under the Projects tab on this website.

The C.O.W. Project has helped to show us how empathetic, creative, and thoughtful our students can be and makes us feel very excited and hopeful for the future.

Giving   Constructive    Feedback

We knew our students would be required to give feedback to their classmates and students from Ohio and Wisconsin, so we use the video below to help illustrate the key points of effective peer feedback.
